York County’s Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from county residents living in District 2 and District 3 who are interested in serving on the York County Community Services Grant Advisory Committee. In May of 2018, the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa confirmed the finding of the Haemaphysalis longicornis tick (otherwise known as the East Asian or Longhorned tick) in Virginia. It was previously unknown in the state, but since then has been detected in 24 counties, mostly in the western part of the state. Peninsula Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) is holding a CarFit safety event on Monday, June 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Denbigh Community Center parking lot located at 15198 Warwick Blvd., Newport News. CarFit is a free community-based educational program designed to help mature drivers assess how well they and their cars "fit" together and what actions they might take to improve that fit. Senior Center of York June Activities and Notable Events ... A variety of educational and entertaining programs are being offered at the Senior Center of York in June. Participation is open to seniors age 55 or better and their spouses, regardless of age. To register for these activities, sign up in person at the Senior Center or call (757) 890- 3444. Along with our regular activities – Birthday Bash, Craft Day, AARP Driver Safety Program, and "War Stories and Pizza” - activities scheduled for June include: Sign Language, Up Close with the K-9 Unit, a trip to Charlottesville, The Power of Positivity, and Culture Day.
