York County and Poquoson Weekly Sports Recap

The spring sports season is now officially underway, and our local soccer teams had quite a Monday! To start with, the Tabb girls won a squeaker 1-0 over Warwick, as defense prevailed. The York girls had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Menchville, but the boys upended Warwick 4-2. The Grafton girls defeated Kecoughtan 3-1, and the boys edged First Colonial from Virginia Beach 2-1. That game came down to one of those thrilling penalty kick stops.The Poquoson girls settled for a 3-3 draw with Nansemond- Suffolk Academy, but the boys did lose to Menchville 3-0. In tennis, the Grafton girls lost 9-0 to Midlothian of Richmond, but the boys defeated the same school 7-2. In softball, Grafton played two on Saturday. They lost to Grassfield of Chesapeake 7-2, but defeated Tallwood of Virginia Beach 5-0. In baseball, Tabb beat Bethel 10-2, York lost 3-1 to Gloucester, and Poquoson was impressive in winning over Kecoughtan 11-0. And yes, we play lacrosse now! On Saturday, March 9th the York boys visited Cox High School in Virginia Beach, and brought home a 13-10 victory. Furthermore, Bruton held a "Meet the Coaches Night" on Monday, 3/11 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., and Summit Christian Academy also held a "Spring Sports Parents Meeting" that evening.

Lastly, in mental sports, Nick Gu of Tabb won 1st Place in extemperaneous speaking at the Regional Forensics Tournament on Friday, March 8th. He is now eligible for the State Tournament later this month.
