Yorktown Trolleys Return for Their 19th Year of Operation
Submitted by Gail Whittaker

YTrolley imageThe free Yorktown Trolley is one of the best ways to see Historic Yorktown, and you can expect it back on the streets Friday, March 22, just in time for an exciting lineup of spring events! The trolley is available to all locals and visitors to alleviate the hassle of finding parking close to the waterfront, especially during peak tourist season.

After a successful pilot program last year, trolley service extends past the regular schedule during Sounds of Summer concerts, which take place at the waterfront every Thursday night in June, July, and August—with the exception of July 4.

2019 Schedule
Mar. 22 – May 23 (daily) 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
May 24 – Sept. 2 (daily) 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Sept. 3 – Nov. 17 (daily) 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Holiday Schedule
Nov. 22 – Dec. 29 (Fri, Sat and Sun only) 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The trolleys are climate controlled and ADA compliant, and run a circuitous route throughout the historic area. The 20-25 minute long route begins at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center with stops at the Victory Monument, Historic Main Street, Riverwalk Landing, Watermen’s Museum, and others, and ends at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. During the trip, the trolley drivers provide helpful information at each stop to allow the rider to focus on the scenery, the history, and where to have their next meal!

This is the 19th year York County has offered this service to the community. The trolleys are financed primarily by state and federal grant money. Each car can transport 28 seated and 19 standing passengers at a time. The trolley transports approximately 90,000 passengers throughout Yorktown during its operational season.
