York County and Poquoson Weekly Sports Recap

Recap28Mar imageMarch 19th is traditionally the day the swallows return to Capistrano, and in baseball Tabb opened its spring season that same Tuesday with an 8-4 home victory against Lafayette. Not to be outdone, the girls softball squad hosted the same school and slugged its way to a 12-6 triumph. On Friday the York boys team hosted Grafton and was on the losing end of a 10-0 shutout. That same day to the same school the girls softball team also lost 11-3. On Monday the Bruton boys hosted New Kent and won 4-0, and the girls also hosted New Kent and lost 10-0. Also on Monday the Poquoson boys lost decisively 9-2 to Grafton.

In soccer, on Monday the Tabb girls played their third straight away game, and won 5-2 at Woodside to move to 2-0-1 on the season. That same day the boys highpowered offense led the team to a 14-0 victory over visiting Lakeland. The boys are now 2-0-0 on the year. The York boys lost at home on Monday 4-2 to Indian River, but the Falcons clawed back on Thursday for a 4-0 win over Woodside. The Grafton girls had a busy week, playing three games in four days. They won at home on Monday against Chancellor, who visited all the way from Spotsylvania County, by a 2-1 count. On Tuesday they hosted Nansemond River from Suffolk, but this time lost a defensive match 1-0. Lastly, on Friday they ventured to Great Bridge in Chesapeake and this time were shut out 2-0. The boys traveled to Nansemond River on Wednesday and lost 2-1. The Bruton girls lost 5-0 to visiting King William on Monday 5-0, but bounced back and won 4- 0 at Lancaster on Wednesday. The boys traveled all the way to the Eastern Shore to visit Nandua on Monday and lost 6-0, but they too bounced back at Lancaster on Wednesday as they won 7-0. It was quite a bus ride for the Bruton teams, as Lancaster is located in the Upper Peninsula of Virginia.

In tennis, the Tabb girls visited New Kent on Tuesday and netted the 6-3 triumph.The boys played the same team, albeit at home, and won 7-2. On Tuesday the York girls hosted Bruton and won for their third straight 9-0 victory, and the boys visited Bruton and also won 9-0. Lastly, another Tuesday matchup saw the Grafton girls squeaking by visiting Warhill 5-4, and the boys traveling to Warhill and winning 9-0.
