Tabb Tigers Softball: State Champions!
By Martin Phillips

TTSoft imageNobody’s perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, so they say. Ones who are perfect in some regard, is Tabb softball. The team makes mistakes, occasionally, but they always fix themselves up. By the time the game is through, they’ve perfected it all. Tabb softball has not lost a game all year. The entire regular season no one has beat them, some goes for the playoffs, and this past weekend they were in the state championship. No one had defeated them yet, was this going to be the dream season? Seven innings decided such a feat.

The opponent, Cave Spring, started pretty hot, bringing in two runs in the top of the first inning. It looked like a promising game ahead. In the bottom of the inning the Tigers brought in one run. It was 2-1, with Cave Spring ahead. Then Tabb did what they’d be doing all season, perfected areas they needed to. Undefeated pitcher Maltos called the strikes and a strong defense was behind her.

Cave Spring was not allowed to score any other runs the entire inning. It look like it could be the same fate for Tabb, not getting anything in the second, but the team made up for it in the third inning scoring five runs. The fourth saw one run and fifth brought two. For the last innings Tabb just had to keep their 9-2 lead. It was not too difficult, though no other points were scored, Tabb stayed around, which ultimately made the game a Tabb victory! Tabb High School Softball had done it, a perfect season and a state championship!

Top scorers were Sydney Jacobsen who went 2-4 with 3 runs and 1 RBI, Kristen Malloy who went 3-4 with 4 RBIs, and Abbie Overbay who went 1-2 with 3 RBIs. It was a team effort though; this whole season has been. Believe or not, Tabb won 26 game this year! They are 26-0! This is Tabb High’s first ever state championship in softball! They’ve come close years before, it’s been fun watching the progress all season, and now it’s great to rejoice with team! We’ll see how far this streak goes! The only thing left to do is…graduate! Wonderful season, best of luck next year where ever you’ll go!
