YVVH ImageOn Friday, July 27, 2018, SFC Donald "Doc" Washburn, US Army Retired, a 2 tour decorated Vietnam Veteran (aviation mechanic and door gunner) and Department of the Army Civilian Instructor at The US Army Transportation School, then at Ft Eustis, Va, and resident of Yorktown for 50 years was honored by the United States Army Transportation Corps, by having the US Army Transportation School Auditorium at Wylie Hall, Fort Lee, Va dedicated to his honor.

Don passed away in 2016. With his widow Roselyn of Yorktown, and two of his three sons present, the ceremony was presided over by Col Stephen J Riley, Assistant Commandant of The US Army Transportation School. The ceremony included dedicating a Plaque honoring Don unveiled along a ribbon cutting with an inscription unveiled over the Auditorium entrance through which thousands of current and future generations of US Army soldiers and civilians will pass during their training, mentoring, or attending awards presentations. Washburn was recognized as one of the US Army's top instructors, being recognized as instructor of the year numerous times, instructor of the year for the US Army Training and Doctrine Command, and was earlier inducted into the US Army Transportation Corps order of St Christopher, as a distinguished member of the Transportation Corps. Col. John C Rice, US Army Retired (US Army Transportation School) said of Don "He was the epitome of army values and made damn sure his students were as professional and prepared as possible."

His family was presented with a commemorative crystal memento of the occasion. Three of his grandsons are on active duty with the US Army.
