Opera in Williamsburg Presents Verdi’s La Traviata
Submitted by Dot Bryant

OperaWP ImageOpera in Williamsburg's next production, Verdi’s La Traviata, will be performed at the Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg, Virginia, on September 12, 14, and 16.  Details and tickets are available on Opera in Williamsburg’s web site, www.operainwilliamsburg.org,  at the Kimball box office, and at 1-800-249-0179.

La Traviata is the most popular opera in the world today. The story is timeless – a woman who gives up everything for love, only to give up her love for the sake of her beloved. "La Traviata is very unusual in being about the composer’s own time and social circle – not the heroic past or distant lands,” says veteran Metropolitan Opera stage director Fabrizio Melano, who will direct the production.

The opera will be conducted by Maestro Jorge Parodi, Opera in Williamsburg’s music director, leading an orchestra of acclaimed Virginia musicians. It will feature a superb worldclass cast, including Haeran Hong in the title role, Won Whi Choi as her beloved Alfredo, and Marco Nistico as his concerned father. The leading couple has starred in Opera in Williamsburg’s breathtaking Lucia di Lammermoor in Fall 2014, and Marco Nistico was last with Opera in Williamsburg in the sparkling Cosi fan tutte in Spring 2015.

There will be an opportunity to meet and hear the singers at the Stryker Center, 412 North Boundary St, on September 4 at 7:00-8:00 PM, free and open to the public.

There will also be a dinner concert at the Colonial Heritage Clubhouse, 6500 Arthur Hills Drive, on September 7 at 6-9 PM, with a sitdown dinner and a cash bar. Tickets for the dinner should be purchased by September 4 at www.operainwilliamsburg.org, or reserved by phone at (757) 871-3653; concert-only tickets will be available through September 7 and at the door.

The dress rehearsal for La Traviata on September 10 is open for free to K-12 students by pre-arrangement, please contact  info@operainwilliamsburg.org
