York County and Poquoson Weekly Sports Recap
Submitted by John Hamilton

The last week of October has brought us to the brink of the end of the regular season, and into the exciting playoff portion of the fall sports season. Many of the Friday football games were delayed due to the coastal storm. Below is a recap of the weekly action:

1) The vaunted Tabb High girls field hockey squad suffered two late-season losses to Trinity Christian and Poquoson. However, in the first round of the regional playoffs they bounced back on Monday, 10/29 with a convincing 7-0 victory at home over New Kent. Now York High, who defeated Phoebus High 15-0, awaits the Tabb team on Tuesday in the next round.

2) The York High football team lost a heartbreaker at New Kent by the score of 42-35. On Friday, 11/2 they will play Poquoson in the final regular season game of the year. Poquoson lost a tough one at Lafayette 13- 3, but still maintains a strong 8-2 record.

3) Tabb football traveled to Bruton and defeated them 30-0, as this game was held in the stormy, sloppy conditions Friday night.

4) Grafton football lost 30-6 at home on Saturday, 10/27 to Smithfield to fall to 0-8 on the season.

5) In somewhat of a surprise, the 2-13 Bruton girls field hockey team went to Hopewell and secured a solid 5-0 victory in the first round of the regional tournament.

6) Finally, the York and Bruton girls and boys teams will compete in the Regional Cross Country Tournament on Thursday, November 1st.
