Yorktown Holiday Market and Toyland Parade This Weekend
Submitted by Gail Whittaker

YorkHM imageThe Historic Yorktown waterfront transforms into a Christmas wonderland for the final Market Days event of the year from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 8. There's something for everyone at Market Days, including a sugar plum chef demonstration and face painting!

Schedule of Events:
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shop the market for wreaths, greenery, and decorations; Christmas gift baskets; gourmet dog treats; fresh breads; chowder and soups; baked goods; jams, jellies, and syrups; homemade soaps; and other Virginia produced and made products. Also, close to 20 local artists will be set up selling paintings, baskets, jewelry, stained glass, photography, painted gourds, and apparel made from alpaca fleece.
  • 10:30 a.m. Learn how to make sugar plums during a chef cooking demonstration with Carrot Tree Kitchens of Yorktown.
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids are invited to the grassy area in front of the Riverwalk Landing Fountain to learn how to make colonial ornaments with the Watermen's Museum and for free face painting provided by Riverwalk Landing businesses.
  • 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Virginia Cooperative Extension will have back-to-back workshops inside the Freight Shed to demonstrate wreath making and to provide tips for decorating a Christmas tree.
  • 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can enjoy a special outdoor holiday performance by Centerstage Academy.
  • 1:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to dress in their holiday best and march in the Toyland Parade as it makes its way through Riverwalk Landing led by Santa and the Fifes and Drums of York Town. Immediately following the parade, children can board the Riverwalk Polar Express!
Free parking is available in several lots throughout Historic Yorktown, including three on Ballard Street: York Hall, the County Administration Building, and the York-Poquoson Courthouse. Spots fill up quickly in the two-level parking terrace on Water Street., but the walk from those other lots is a short distance. The free Yorktown Trolley also runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day with stops near each parking location.

Yorktown Market Days is always rain or shine. When it rains, the vendors and artists move into the lower level of the parking terrace. The extra activities, however, may be canceled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled. Visitors are encouraged to follow Visit Yorktown's social media accounts for all event-related changes and announcements.

Yorktown Market Days' Toyland Parade is presented by the Riverwalk Landing Business Association and York County. Special thanks to this year's Revolutionary Sponsors: Farm Bureau Insurance and Langley Federal Credit Union. Mark your calendars....The market is scheduled to return for the 2019 season on Saturday, April 13!
