April Activities and Events at the Senior Center!

Senior5Apr imageA variety of educational and entertaining programs are being offered at the Senior Center of York in April. Participation is open to seniors age 55 or better and their spouses, regardless of age. To register for these activities, sign up in person at the Senior Center or call (757) 890-3444.

AARP Free Tax Service – Now through Tuesday, April 17.
Tax preparation for seniors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays is on a first-come, firstserved basis, with priority to those 60 and older. Participants should bring last year’s tax return and current tax information.

Spring White Elephant and Bake Sale Fundraiser – Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Please support this event by bringing in your donated items (no clothing items, please). Donations can be dropped off Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prepackaged and readyfor- sale baked goods such as cakes, cookies, and brownies may be delivered on Friday, April 6, or the morning of the event. Tickets are also available now for a drawing with the opportunity to win great prizes.

York-Poquoson Triad sponsored "Gadgets and Assistive Devices” – Friday, April 13, at 12:45 p.m.
Peninsula Agency on Aging’s Randi Chew will display and demonstrate a variety of consumer products that can make performing various tasks around the house more manageable. If you have an assistive device that helps you maintain your independence, please feel free to bring it along. Please register by Wednesday, April 11.

April Craft - Monday, April 16, at 10 a.m.
Join us as we paint a small, hand-sized rock with facilitator Kathy Wahl. For this craft project, please bring in your own dry, clean rock to paint. Your creation makes a great gift for yourself or a friend. Please register by Thursday, April 12. Space is limited.

AARP Driver Safety Program - Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17.This program is designed for drivers age 50 or better. Cost is $15 for members of AARP and $20 for nonmembers.

Annual Tea – Wednesday, April 18, at 1 p.m.
Winette Sparkman Jeffery, co-author of "Celebrate Virginia! Cookbook: The Hospitality, History, and heritage of Virginia,” will lead a collective discussion on the First Ladies of Virginia. The author will also share her adventures collective historic recipes across the Commonwealth. Please register by Monday, April 16.

April Birthday Bash - Friday, April 20, at 1 p.m.
Entertainer Dan Smith will play music from the 1940s and ‘50s including some Elvis Presley favorites. You do not have to be celebrating a birthday to come join in on the fun!

"War Stories and Pizza” - Monday, April 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.Veterans can gather and share stories from military service and enjoy a pizza lunch. Senior Center board member and U.S. Army veteran Buck Rodgers is the program facilitator. Please register in advance.
