Back From Break, Tigers Baseball Overcomes Hopewell
By Martin Phillips

TBOH imageIf you didn’t know, spring break ended a week ago. School is back in session, at least for like nine weeks or so. Plenty of things can happen in that time span! In fact, plenty of things happened in this "coming back” week. If you don’t pay attention, you’ll probably miss out! Luckily, articles like this are written to catch everyone on up. This write-up is about the baseball that happened between Tabb and Hopewell.

The season has been going on for almost a month now. Records are being formed. The Tigers are doing decent. Hopewell was an out of district game, but is one of those in conference games, so could be a postseason preview. The game started really in Hopewell’s favor. From the start, in the first inning, they got two runs in. It was 2-0. Then in the bottom of the first Tabb did not replicate the same success.

The 2-0 lead showed on the scoreboard for three innings, the top and bottom. Tabb couldn’t add any runs, neither could Hopewell. After the top of then fourth inning things started to lift off for the Tigers. Tabb started to hit the ball well and move fast, eventually leading to bring in two runs at the end of the inning. In a single inning the Tigers had caught up and lead the game, 3-2.

After that everything just clicked for Tabb. The defense kept preventing Hopewell from scoring and the offense kept adding on points. The next inning Tabb added two more runs and the inning after that added one. It was 6-2 Tabb entering the seventh final inning. In the top of the seventh Hopewell had more chance to catch up. They needed at least four runs, but could only get one. The game ended up being 6-3, a Tabb win.

The top performances were Brandon Marello who pitched for six innings and throwing ten strikeouts and also had a double, Logan Bartels who went 2-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI, Carter Wood who went 1-3 with 1 run. Trey Stover with went 3-3 with 1 run, and Joel Martin who went 1-3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Tabb in a way had a late comeback. The 4-4 team keeps coming back. Try to go out to the ol’ ball game sometime. The weather is perfect for it.
