Submitted by Elizabeth Tai

ChiNY imageThe Year of the Pig was ushered in on February 9th by the Peninsula Chinese American community.

Approximately 250 families celebrated this most important Chinese holiday with folk dance, songs, martial arts performance, Dragon Parade, riddle guessing, Lion Dance and Hong Bao for children ( lucky money in an red envelope). Those Chinese New Year traditions were presented by the Chinese School students and the community members at Denbigh High School Auditorium and at Buffet City Restaurant.

2019 in Lunar Calendar is the Year of the Pig which is the last of the 12 Chinese Zodiacs cycle. It is believed that people who are born on this year are energetic, and blessed with good fortune.
