END OF AN ERA

EndEra imageDear Readers,

Thank you for your continued readership of Yorktown Crier-Poquoson Post. This newspaper has existed as two separate publications and then a single one for over forty years. It has been our privilege to serve as a voice within and for the community and to deliver to you a quality local newspaper.

Over the past month and a half, we have undergone considerable changes in order to not only improve our newspaper, but engagement with the communities we serve. We are truly appreciative of all of your feedback, insight, volunteerism, and the excitement over this "rebirth" of the Crier. I am incredibly proud of my staff and all of the hard work they put into this paper every week.

However, the paper still faces several tremendous uphill battles. Unfortunately, I will no longer be along for the ride.

Due to circumstances beyond my control related to the business and in my personal life, I made the decision that it was time for me to leave the Crier. Trust me when I say that this was an incredibly difficult decision. Since starting with the Crier in 2017, I have served several different roles with the paper including: "resident historian," staff writer, photojournalist, social media manager, and Editor-in- Chief. My time at the paper has been rewarding, humbling, and wonderful. I will miss it a great deal.

This week is my last with the Crier. I have communicated with some of you already, but I am transitioning everything I am privy to over to the ownership. If you have any questions regarding your subscription, invoices, advertisements, etc., please direct them to Mr. Greg Garrett and York-Poquoson Truth Media, Inc. at: YorktownCrierOwners@gmail.com I am uncertain how frequently they check this email address or how long it will take for them to respond. Our phone number (757- 766-1776) is also temporarily down until the ownership takes possession of it later this week. Additionally, anything that needs to be mailed to us can be sent to: P.O. BOX 978, Yorktown, VA 23692 (we do not maintain the office on George Washington Memorial Highway).

I don't know what will happen with the paper after this week... I wish I had answers to give to you. Only time will tell.

Thank you for entrusting our paper to represent our communities. It has been an honor to work for you and with so many wonderful people.

Respectfully,
Nancy E. Sheppard
Editor-in-Chief

I too will be taking this opportunity to say farewell to the Crier, for many of the similar reasons that Nancy has listed, but also as a natural cycle for me to pursue greater goals.

I will be forever greatful to my co-workers, regular contributors and the people of Yorktown and Poquoson who I had the honor of working with everyday.

Thank you,
Colin Boyd
Creative Director
