The Christmas holiday season was the occasion that brought families from all over the area to celebrate this special time of the year. The festivities began promptly at 9:00 a.m. as various vendors provided a cornacopia of products for purchase. Most products had to do specifically with the Christmas season. There were Christmas baskets, holiday wreaths, decorations and seasonal produce as well. Jams, jellies, fudge and baked goods wetted the appetite. For those looking for something more substantial, there was fresh seafood, chicken, soups and chowder. Those in attendance wishing to hone their cooking prowness could toke part in the cooking demonstrations provided by Carrot Tree Kitchens of Yorktown. From 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. there were a number of activities to both view and take part in. There was holiday music by "Heart Strings’ a Colonial Cristmas Program at the Waterman’s Museum, arts and crafts for the kids and, of course, a time for the children to visit Mr. and Mrs. Claus. At 1:30 p.m. the big event got underway. It was the Toyland Parade through Riverwalk Landing led by Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Yorktown Fifes and Drums. Taking part in the parade were Kids and their parents dressed up in holiday attire and even dogs in costume. The very little ones travelled in strollers decorated for Christmas being pushed along by the parents. Even the Grinch was spotted traversing the parade route on his Segway. A memorable event to rap up the market season.
