President William Nelson's House and Property Destroyed in 1814 ... Nearly 200 years ago on March 4, 1814, at 3 P.M., Yorktown was nearly destroyed by a fire which originated from the ordinary of Mrs. Mary Gibbons, near the present day York Hall. The courthouse and church burned, as well as the “Commons”, the lower town below the hill, according to the press (Richmond Enquirer, March 9, 1814). Riverwalk Unveils Star Chef ... A new star has arrived in historic Yorktown. The Riverwalk, the signature restaurant of Yorktown, has hired as its chef Steve Francisco, the former head chef of Trellis restaurant in Williamsburg. The Riverwalk has now become a place for the people of York, rather than mainly for tourists, according to new owner Mario Buffa. “With Chef Steve Francisco, the Riverwalk has moved beyond the role of merely a tourist restaurant. We can all enjoy the creations of a chef who has trained with chefs from America’s greatest traditions.”(Read the Article)


Mardi Gras Comes to Poquoson ... With the belief that it takes a village to educate a child, the Poquoson Education Foundation (PEF) draws members of the community together to support the teachers and students in Poquoson City Public Schools. Community spirit was evident at the Foundation’s recent fundraising gala, Mardi Gras Nights. Supporters donned beads and masks for an evening of revelry at the Poquoson Yacht Club.
